Virtual Forum Mapping for Water Supply Improvements in Developing Countries
Kelly Latham (EWB-USA)
Jon Girand (EWB-USA)
A sound analysis of the needs of a community requires the collection of geographically related data including its boundaries, membership, environment, vulnerability and capacity of physical and natural resources, metrics of the existing conditions, among others at the beginning of the assessment process of a design project. Mapping is the critical input to this analysis. The presenters will provide a framework with examples for the efficient collection of data that can be used for development of a needs assessment, preparation of alternatives, preliminary designs, and background sheets for design documents, and for monitoring and evaluation of a completed project. The presentation will focus on mapping for water supply projects but much of the information could apply to any EWB-USA project.
